چکیده
The possibility that playing action video games is associated with enhancements in certain aspects of cognitive function has attracted significant interest from researchers education, psychology, and neuroscience. Previous meta-analyses indicated an overall positive relationship between game play skills. However, follow-up to this previous work warranted, not only because the amount data grown significantly since were conducted, but also left several issues unresolved (e.g., meta-analytic procedures). We conducted a literature search using predefined keywords inclusion criteria identify studies examined Data (a) 105 cross-sectional (221 effect sizes) (b) 28 intervention active control group (91 analyzed separately via models for dependent sizes robust variance estimates correlated hierarchical effects (CHE) small-sample corrections. Consistent our hypotheses, players outperformed nonvideo meta-analysis (large effect, g = 0.64, 95% CI [0.53, 0.74]). Action was causally related improvements skills (small 0.30, [0.11, 0.50]). Publication bias detected set, sensitivity analysis showing high heterogeneous average unbiased effect. analyses point heterogeneity. No moderators found either set; however, may be limited by small sample sizes.

The ubiquity of video games in today's society has led to significant interest in their impact on the brain and behavior and in the possibility of harnessing games for good. The present meta-analyses focus on one specific game genre that has been of particular interest to the scientific community-action video games, and cover the period 2000-2015. To assess the long-lasting impact of action vid...

Do video games enhance cognitive functioning? We conducted two meta-analyses based on different research designs to investigate how video games impact information-processing skills (auditory processing, executive functions, motor skills, spatial imagery, and visual processing). Quasi-experimental studies (72 studies, 318 comparisons) compare habitual gamers with controls; true experiments (46 s...

متن کاملAction video game training for cognitive enhancement
Here we review the literature examining the perceptual, attentional, and cognitive benefits of playing one sub-type of video games known as ‘action video games,’ as well as the mechanistic underpinnings of these behavioral effects. We then outline evidence indicating the potential usefulness of these commercial off-the-shelf games for practical, real-world applications such as rehabilitation or...
